Broadband Delivery

High-speed access for the future

The NSW Government supports ubiquitous access to fast, high quality and upgradable broadband network services that will deliver significant benefits to the people of New South Wales.

The following principles will guide NSW Government initiative and strategies to encourage the uptake and rollout of broadband across the state:

  • Economic benefits to the businesses and citizens of NSW;
  • Competition, especially at the infrastructure and retail levels;
  • Opportunities and benefits for NSW Government service delivery; and
  • Revenue obtained through agreements with NBN Co for facilities access agreements with NSW Government agencies.

The NSW NBN Coordinator is working to coordinate, where appropriate, whole of government responses to the Commonwealth and NBN Co in relation to the rollout of the NBN, including the negotiation of facilities access agreements.

The NSW Broadband Taskforce has also been established as a cross-government and industry body to facilitate the rollout of high speed broadband in NSW.

Broadband Technology Trials

Next generation services, applications and content will be researched and trialled in mini-high speed broadband environments called 'testbeds'.

National Broadband Network (NBN) Rollout

In April 2009 The Federal Government set up the company, NBN Co, to design, build and operate the National Broadband Network.
