Broadband Technology Trials
The NSW Government is supporting trials of next-generation services, applications and content that will take advantage of the high-speed National Broadband Network.
The trials - called 'testbeds' - will develop and test products and services for health, education, energy conservation, home automation and security, as well as home entertainment such as IP-based television and video-on-demand across the internet.
Research institutions, commercial partners and government agencies will be involved in testbed projects.
In-home trials at Parkbridge Estate
The NSW Department of Finance and Services (DFS) assisted research organisations to undertake in-home technology projects at a new housing development in south-west Sydney.

Australian Centre for Broadband Innovation
The Australian Centre for Broadband Innovation was established to investigate, demonstrate and promote applications and services that enable, and are enabled by, widespread availability of broadband.
The Centre is a joint initiative between the NSW Government and research organisations CSIRO and National ICT Australia (NICTA). It was launched in December 2010.
Projects will be initially undertaken in the areas of:
- telehealth and e-health
- infrastructure services (including smart grid and smart transport technologies)
- e-Government ( including technologies for the human services and ICT platforms for government)
- new digital media and interactive broadcasting
- analysis of economic and social benefits from NBN applications.
Visit the Centre’s page on the CSIRO website.
Telehealth projects in Kiama and Armidale
In-home telehealth services for older people with chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease will be trialled in Armidale and Kiama using the National Broadband Network.
The trials are supported by up to $4million in Federal Government funding and will be delivered in collaboration with NSW Health, local general practitioners and primary care providers. They will start in 2011.
