NSW Government broadband initiatives

In NSW, broadband is already being used to deliver and support health, education and training, justice, commercial and community services.

For example:

  • Broadband supports the NSW Government’s Telehealth program which allows clinicians to assess patients via videoconferencing.
  • The Department of Education and Communities uses videoconferencing and collaborative technologies to deliver lessons and teacher in-service training to remote areas.
  • The Department of Justice and Attorney General is looking to enhance its services through the use of videoconferencing, webcasting, interactive guides and smart-forms, and streaming audio-visual content. It is also exploring options such as virtual and online courts.

The NSW Broadband Taskforce has sett up broadband technology trials - or 'testbeds' - to research and test the next generation of applications and content in areas such as smart metering, education, housing, health and small business.
