Here are a few examples of NSW success stories in information and communications technology (ICT):
- A CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) team in Sydney produced the technology at the heart of high speed WiFi, the world’s most popular way to connect computers without wires.
- The NSW Roads and Traffic Authority developed the first version of an intelligent traffic system now used in more than 120 cities worldwide.
- Sydney-based Atlassian specialises in online collaboration software for technical teams. Atlassian has more than 20,000 customers in 134 countries. Its JIRA and Confluence software suites are the leading products in their respective markets globally.
- Some of Google’s most innovative global products including Google Maps, used by hundreds of millions of people, were designed and continue to be developed in Australia.
- US company Avega Systems has its R&D based in Sydney. The company develops networked home entertainment technology platforms and is a world leader in the emerging space of streaming broadband wireless media in the home.
- National Information and Communications Technology Australia (NICTA) spin-off Open Kernel Labs (OK Labs) is the global leader in open source virtualization software for mobile devices, consumer electronics, and embedded systems. OK Labs software deployed in more than 1 billion mobile devices worldwide was born out of research conducted at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and NICTA.
- CargoWise is an Australian-owned world leader in software solutions for transport and logistics supply chains. Its multi-award winning flagship product, ediEnterprise, runs the majority of Australian and New Zealand logistics companies and is now installed in over 50 countries and 2,200 corporations.
