Tech23 Broadband Innovation Prize 8 November 2011
Tech23 is an event that encourages collaboration, networking, sharing and learning between Australian businesses, entrepreneurs, universities and public-funded research agencies. The Tech23 2011 event was held on 23 August 2011 at The Auditorium, 37 Reservoir Street, Surry Hills, Sydney.
As part of Tech23, in order to promote the innovative use of broadband services $25,000 was offered as a prize to one up-and-coming ICT company whose business model, product, service or solution had the best ability to drive demand through broadband services.
This award and four other Innovation Pathways Prizes were sponsored by the NSW Government and were announced at the Tech23 2011 event.
The four other prize categories were:
- Outstanding Collaboration for Innovation Award - $25,000 for the company which best demonstrated active engagement in a business partnership or collaboration contributing to the development of their innovation;
- Community Contribution Award - $25,000 for the company best demonstrated how their innovation would significantly and measurably benefit their local or national community;
- Greatest Potential Award - $25,000 for the company which best demonstrated how they would progress their business model to the next level providing the greatest potential for growth and progress; and
- Innovation Excellence Award - $50,000 for the company judged the best of the Tech23 demonstrated how their innovation was unique, underpins company performance, industry dynamics, productivity change and economic growth.
From the large number of applicants a final 23 new information and communications technology companies were selected to compete for the five prizes totalling in value $150,000 – including the prestigious $25,000 broadband innovation award.
Over 400 industry representatives attended to hear the pre-selected companies present their innovative technology and business model. Each company was given just five minutes for its presentation.
Companies involved in the Tech23 2011 event had the opportunity to network with investors, mentors, customers and advisors and were given space on an “Innovation Island” to demonstrate their products and services.
Tech 23 2011 was organised by Slattery IT and supported by Trade & Investment, Regional Infrastructure and Services NSW and the Australian Technology Showcase.
